Our trees in the Amazon forest reduce emissions and support communities

Thanks to our collaboration with the Saving the Amazon Foundation, 2,504 trees have been planted by 2025 near several indigenous communities in Colombia.

The Sacyr Foundation has a forest in the Amazon since 2021. The planting areas are located in the Amazon region of Colombia, in indigenous territories.

Thanks to our alliance with Saving the Amazon, 2,504 trees were planted in 2025 in the indigenous communities of Murutinga Arenal, Puerto Corroncho, Puerto Paloma and Tayazú in Vaupés.

The trees planted by the Foundation reduce the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2), thus mitigating the effect of climate change.

The most planted species were Patabá (Oenocarpus bataua), Wasay (Euterpe precatortia) and Aguacatillo (Persea beilschmiedia), which represent 0.44% of the Foundation's total forest.

The most accurate approximate capture value for the planting of the 2,504 trees planted is 2,378.63 tons of CO2.

In the local communities where the planting took place, 80% of the families that participated in the planting do not have any other additional source of income. From the joint work of planting, an important work is being done to provide employment so that they can begin to improve their quality of life.

Gender equality has also been promoted as both men and women worked together to plant the trees. This helped to break down gender stereotypes and promote equal opportunities.

Awarded for our support to the Spinal Cord Injury Foundation

Pedro Alonso, Executive director of the Sacyr Foundation, received yesterday the Hearts that Help, People that Transform solidarity award from the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

The director of the Sacyr Foundation, Pedro Alonso, received yesterday the solidarity award "Corazones que Ayudan, Personas que Transforman" (Hearts that Help, People that Transform), from the Fundación del Lesionado Medular (FLM) .

The award was presented by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, for the collaboration of the Sacyr Foundation with the FLM. The Sacyr Foundation collaborates with the neurorehabilitation program for children between six and 18 years of age in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability and/or family.

Families with disabled children in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability need the help of third parties to be able to cover the costs of a decent, adequate and effective rehabilitation for their children.

The project is divided into three phases:

-Selection the social work department together with administration will evaluate the applications for access to rehabilitation services.
Development, in which the beneficiary children will receive two individualized specialized rehabilitation sessions per week, with the aim of improving their personal autonomy, training the beneficiary in self-care and their families in assistance and support to ensure maximum efficiency of treatment inside and outside the center.
-Evaluation : a report will be drawn up to demonstrate the benefits of the treatment received.

After this phase, the minors and their families may choose to continue their treatment in the formula they best need, although they will be equipped with the tools to take care of their personal autonomy and maintain their health in a more domiciliary environment, always with the advice of the FLM.

We extend our solidarity to Brazil

The Board of Trustees of the Sacyr Foundation has decided to include Brazil in its program of solidarity actions with local communities.

The Board of Trustees of the Sacyr Foundation, which was held on December 11, decided to include Brazil among the countries in which solidarity actions will be organized with communities close to our projects.

So far, Spain, Chile, Colombia, Peru, USA and Paraguay have been the countries receiving funds to help almost 80 organizations to carry out their work.

In addition, the Board of Trustees has given continuity for the coming months to four projects with which we have already worked this year. These are the Manos de Ayuda Social Foundation, the Elena Barraquer Foundation, the Exit Foundation and the Emalaikat Foundation.

We support the #NoMoreCataracts project in Guatemala

Through the Sacyr Foundation, we collaborate with the Elena Barraquer Foundation, whose volunteers operate on people with cataracts who cannot afford to pay for surgery.

The Elena Barraquer Foundation has just returned from its expedition to Guatemala where it carried out the #NoMásCataratas project, made possible in large part thanks to the new collaboration agreement signed with the Sacyr Foundation.

The #NoMásCataratas Guatemala project has three objectives: to operate on cataract patients who do not have the resources to afford surgery, to reduce the burden of avoidable blindness in vulnerable communities, and to generate a direct impact on people's quality of life, giving them back their independence and ability to work and care for their families. It also provides training for local staff.

In Guatemala, thousands of people live in poverty and lack access to specialized ophthalmological services. Cataract is the leading cause of preventable blindness in the country and mainly affects low-income people, preventing them from working, studying or caring for their families.

Normally, a medical team of about 10 professionals (eye surgeons, instrumentalists, anesthesiologists, optometrists and volunteers) is deployed to select the patients. During five working days, 500 surgeries are performed, with 4,400 indirect beneficiaries who will be relieved of the burden of caring for a visually impaired limb.

Upcoming expeditions include destinations such as Senegal, Sri Lanka, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, Nigeria, Guinea Bissau, Botswana, Mauritania, Benin and El Salvador.

Helping humanize the Pediatric Transplant Unit at La Paz Hospital

Thanks to our collaboration agreement with Jaime Alonso Abruña Foundation, we have created a more pleasant environment in this unit of La Paz Hospital in Madrid.

The Sacyr Foundation has signed a collaboration agreement with the Jaime Alonso Abruña Foundation through which we have collaborated in the humanization of the Pediatric Transplant Unit of the La Paz University Hospital (Madrid).

Thanks to our help, it has been possible to transform a space especially sensitive to transplanted children and their families, creating a warmer, cozier and more humane environment with healthy materials that generate a relaxing spatial perception and sensory comfort.

This project contributes very directly to the emotional well-being of the young patients, helping to reduce the feeling of hospitalization and making the long periods of hospitalization more bearable.

"For us it is a privilege to have committed entities such as yours, which understand the importance of humanizing hospital spaces and caring not only for the physical health, but also for the emotional state of children and their families," emphasizes the Jaime Alonso Abruña Foundation.

In this unit, daytime lighting has been differentiated from nighttime lighting, using floor-standing luminaires in the living room, accent lighting with spotlights on the counter, general lighting with perimeter LEDs and downlights in the corridor.

In the rooms, hospital-specific multi-choice wall sconces and dimmable spotlight bars have been used. The combination of this vertical indirect lighting that produces dimmer light with general lighting that will include light sensors, offers different lighting options for different uses of the same space and adapted to different users, but always creating a cozy atmosphere.

Around 500 people have benefited directly and 1,600 people indirectly.
