At the Sacyr Foundation we are committed to Fundación Emalaikat, that works in different areas of Kenya, including Kokuselei, an area of Turkana, in the North of Kenya.
Kokuselei has harsh geographical conditions, as the access to the area is very limited. For that reason, we have developed a health program with medical staff that moves to the different residential areas to provide emergency medical assistance.
Many of these health problems come from the lack of access to water, and consequently, hygiene, which is scarce in this area with severe draught. To mitigate this problem, we have installed a solar powered well, which there is plenty of, and supplies water to the residents of Kokuselei.
Now, we have participated in a new project, the installation of 10 latrines and two wash basins in Fundación Emalaikat’s camp. In addition, thanks to the Sacyr Foundation, some users of this center had the chance to receive a 6-month training on agriculture-related topics and learn about the most suitable crops for the area where they live, and learn how to keep them.
The Sacyr Foundation, in line with the SDG, sees great strategic value in collaborating with organizations like Emalaikat, which contribute to the development of areas at risk of exclusion.
Fundación Emalaikat operates in Malawi and Ethiopia, as well as Kenya. It is committed to the progress of these societies, and is now specially focused on hygiene to fight the virus.
