We gave two amphibious chairs donated by Ruta del Elqui and Ruta del Limarí, both located in northern Chile. Ignacio Hierro, General manager of Ruta del Elqui attended as representative of both projects and the Sacyr Foundation. Alí Manoucheri, Mayor of Coquimbo, the local community and representatives from the Carabineros and Fuerza Naval, were also in attendance and witnessed the amphibious chairs in full operation on the beach.
Amphibious chairs allow people with limited mobility move on certain surfaces not suitable for conventional wheelchair use, such as sand, water, mud or snow.
Each chair comes with a backpack for easy transport and can be used on inclusive beaches and other places. The chairs are light, they only 23 kg, making it easy for one person to carry a chair by themselves.
Miguel Rojas, Chilean parasurfing champion and 4th internationally, was one on the first to try the chairs out. The surfer thanked the Sacyr Foundation and the projects for the donation; “these chairs will be very helpful to the school and to me too as a sea lover”.
The Coquimbo administration and the attendees thanked Sacyr for these donations and gave an award to Ignacio Hierro.
