Today is World Down Syndrome Day and we show our support with the “Mismatched Socks” initiative, launched by Down Madrid to raise awareness about diversity and the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.
Under the hashtag #MismatchedSocksDM, Down Madrid, in collaboration with Sacyr Foundation, has encouraged us to share images of this symbolic gesture. It represents the extra chromosome in people with Down syndrome, who have three chromosomes instead of two in pair 21, leaving one "unpaired."
For this very reason, the celebration takes place in the third month of the year.
In 2018, a British girl named Chloe Lennon initiated this movement by encouraging her classmates to wear mismatched socks.
Additionally, the Madrid-based association organized a charity pop up market at our offices in Condesa de Venadito (Madrid) last Wednesday.
