The 9th edition of the International Seabed Cleanup took place on September 16 and 17, and the Sacyr Foundation was there.
Around 40 diving schools and clubs, including the local Melilla diving club, went underwater in different spots along the coast to clean the seabed. Beach cleanups took place simultaneously on the coast. The Sacyr Foundation was in the Horcas Coloradas beach location in Melilla, where a whopping 3,500 kg of litter and trash was collected.
This is a Libera project initiative by Ecoembes and Seo/BirdLife, with the collaboration of Dr. Tree.
After removing the litter, the divers and volunteers helped sort the litter out, that included iron items, plastic bottles, pieces of fabric, cans, etc.
FESBAL, the local Melilla food bank, will receive a donation of as many food kg as litter kg were removed in the cleanup.
