Sacyr Foundation and Humans Foundation presented today, at our Condesa de Venadito offices, the report Humanization of Healthcare Architecture and Engineering, the first project resulting from the collaboration between the two entities within the framework of the Observatory for the Humanization of Healthcare Architecture (oHas).

This report, developed by a multidisciplinary group of experts, explains how architecture and facility design can contribute to a more personal and humane patient experience, facilitate recovery, reduce stress, and improve quality of life.

Rafael Gómez del Río, CEO of Sacyr Engineering and Infrastructure, presented the event alongside Julio Zarco, Chairman of Humans Foundation.

Gómez del Río stated: "We have brought Sacyr's extensive experience in hospital construction to this project. We have built more than 80 healthcare centers, totaling 18,000 beds. This experience gives us the technical insight we have contributed to this report on the needs of these critical social infrastructures. The learnings from this study will help us build the hospitals of the future."

What is Humanization?

Humanization focuses on key aspects such as accessibility, ergonomics, lighting, ventilation, and privacy in the design of hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare spaces. Its goal is to create environments that not only meet technical and regulatory requirements but also address the emotional and psychological needs of patients, their families, and both medical and non-medical staff.

This project consists of two phases. The first phase involved a nationwide analysis in collaboration with patients, families, and professionals to define strategic guidelines for improving humanized healthcare architecture.

Specific Actions and Indicators

The second phase involves the creation of specific actions and indicators to measure the degree of architectural humanization in healthcare institutions. The goal is to develop a second comprehensive document that integrates all gathered information and serves as a reference in Spain.
