Many seniors spend their days alone, with no one to talk to. That is why we, at the Sacyr Foundation, want to pay homage to our elderly and stress the importance of intergenerationality, as well as creating collective memory.
For this reason, the Sacyr Foundation’s volunteers work to achieve this goal, and thus, we cooperate with NGO Adopta un Abuelo, on a telephone friendship for seniors. Volunteers make weekly calls, and they are free to choose the day and time to call their elderly friend. Additionally, the NGO chooses a senior with similar personality to the volunteer’s. The calls are done through Adopta un Abuelo’s platform.
Adopta un Abuelo’s social work team provides training prior to the volunteer work and offer tips, advice and give examples of situations the volunteers may come across during the experience, and how to face them.
