We celebrate the II Week of the Sacyr Foundation full of charity events!

Volunteer work, pop-up markets, awards – a week filled with charitable projects where we achieved our main goal: raising funds for the Manos de Ayuda Social Foundation to purchase a distribution van.

It has been an intense but very fruitful week. Between November 20th and 26th, we celebrated the II Week of the Sacyr Foundation. In addition to numerous volunteer activities, events, markets, awards, etc., we had a significant challenge.

And most importantly, we did it!

The goal was to raise funds to help the Manos de Ayuda Social Foundation buy a van. The solidarity of Sacyr employees, along with the contribution of the Sacyr Foundation, has made it possible to facilitate food distribution for the less fortunate in the Community of Madrid.

Volunteer work

On November 20th, we went to the dining facilities of Manos de Ayuda Social, where our volunteers helped prepare meals to be distributed among the dining facilities in the Community of Madrid.

Additionally, a group of colleagues spent a fantastic and sunny day with a group of adolescent members of Down Madrid at Faunia (Madrid) on November 18th.

The weather also cooperated for the Reforesta volunteering on November 26th, where Sacyr volunteers, along with their families, planted trees of various species in Camarma de Esteruelas (Guadalajara).

Charitable pop-up markets

The II Week of the Sacyr Foundation also featured three charitable markets with the participation of numerous foundations we collaborate with.

Foundations such as Inclusive Foundation, Down Madrid, Prodis Foundation, El Compromiso (Studying in Chad), Juan XXIII Foundation, Afanías, Emalaikat, and Toda Ayuda Foundation sold their products at markets located in Juan Esplandiú, Condesa, and Partenon.

Moreover, a group of Sacyr volunteers participated in crafting items to sell at these markets and donate the proceeds to the challenge we had this week.

Furthermore, on Saturday the 25th, we had an event at the Mercado de Motores, inside the Museum of the Railway (Madrid), featuring a pizza food truck and a performance by magician Pepito, who collaborates with the Abracadabra Foundation, at 1:00 PM.

13th Edition of Innovation Awards

On Tuesday, November 21st, we celebrated the awards ceremony for the 13th Edition of the Innovation Awards granted by the Sacyr Foundation at the Royal Tapestry Factory of Madrid. Valerann's proposal was the winner of these awards. Their technology stands out for contributing to the safety and connectivity of roads, addressing one of the three challenges in our Sacyr iChallenges call.

Valerann's proposal is the best fit, out of the 205 presented, for one of the three challenges launched as part of our open innovation program, Sacyr iChallenges.

Additionally, our president, Manuel Manrique, on behalf of the Foundation, awarded two honorable mentions to the Canadian firm Kraken Sense and the Latvian SPH Engineering.

Recognition for our Volunteers

On the other hand, on November 22nd, we rewarded the most committed Sacyr employees with the Volunteer of the Year awards at the National Volunteer Recognitions of the Year in 2023. This recognition was introduced this year as a tool to highlight the significant impact of the corporate volunteering activities that hundreds of Sacyr employees carry out.

weRSoCial

On November 23rd, we celebrated a weRSoCial to introduce Bioma, which, in collaboration with the Sacyr Foundation, serves as a meeting place for individuals and institutions seeking joint answers and solutions to the most urgent problems related to science and nature.

To present Bioma, Mireia Carabantes, Project Manager of the BIOMA Center, Marie Anne Reynell, Director of Development at the Museum of Science, Culture, and Scientific Dissemination, and Belén Goñi, Director of Innovation Factory and Entrepreneurship, participated in the weRSoCial.

This center will promote multidisciplinary and applied research, teaching by the faculties of Sciences, Pharmacy, and Nutrition, entrepreneurship through Innovation Factory, and the dissemination and transmission of a passion for science through the Museum of Science.

The agreement between the University of Navarra and the Sacyr Foundation aims to encourage corporate collaboration to promote innovation in environmental sustainability through multidisciplinary research in Bioma. The goal is to educate new generations of scientists and spread a scientific culture that promotes awareness and commitment to our environment.

A third of the space will be dedicated to innovative student learning, another third to environmental research tasks, and a third area will be allocated to the contemplation of the collection of natural sciences and scientific outreach activities.
