The Sacyr Foundation identifies with this roadmap and helps with its contribution to those goals related to the social and environmental spheres.
The connectivity offered by our world facilitates opportunities reaching everyone thanks to communication between people and institutions. Achieving this is one of Sacyr's objectives, as well as those of its Foundation.
At the Sacyr Foundation we help organizations or entities that work to facilitate the path of people who have been affected by illness and disease.
Such is the case of our collaboration with a group of patients from Infanta Cristina University Hospital in Parla in the Camino de Santiago, some of whom are still undergoing oncology treatment. These are 12 women between 30 and 61 years of age, affected by breast, ovarian or digestive cancer. In 2019, 12 patients covered 118 km and in 2021 they covered 121 km. During their journey, they were accompanied by health workers, as some of them are still undergoing hormone treatment or chemotherapy. These 239 kilometers demonstrate that good attitude and effort are an intrinsic part of the character of these champions.
To eliminate intergenerational barriers, at the Sacyr Foundation we collaborate with the NGO Adopta un Abuelo (Adopt a Grandparent) in different initiatives to accompany the elderly. In one of their activities, we virtually got into the kitchen of Ana, better known as "Grandma Ana", and followed the steps to make a lamb stew and then enjoy it with our families.
In addition to this initiative, volunteers from Sacyr collaborate with Adopt a Grandparent by making phone calls to the elderly and try to put an end to unwanted loneliness. This project is also carried out in Sacyr Services’ care homes, as a collaboration agreement has recently been signed by which both entities will collaborate in providing this service to the residents.
Likewise, at the Sacyr Foundation we believe that animals can play a fundamental role in the quality of life of people with disabilities or social disadvantage, which is why we collaborate with the Bocalán Foundation, which, as they define themselves, is "a training school for canine professionals".
Thanks to them, during this year, we have given an assistance dog, named Reto, to Javier, a boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In addition, we have adopted a new dog, Huella, who lives with a Sacyr volunteer who accompanies her during her training.
As part of Sacyr's commitment to the sustainable development of the communities in which we are present, through the Sacyr Foundation we develop initiatives that generate social value linked to the company's economic activity.
Because of Covid-19, the Sustainable Development Goals that we most promote from the Sacyr Foundation are the End of Poverty, Zero Hunger and Health and Safety; it is worth highlighting that we have developed nearly 50 projects in more than 6 countries in this sense.
The Sacyr Foundation in the world
We are committed to equal opportunities, promoting the talent of young people and fighting against social exclusion. These two objectives are what have encouraged us to renew the alliance between Aldeas Infantiles SOS and Sacyr in Chile, which this year sponsors the Antofagasta Village with a significant donation that has served to replace bedding, bedroom furniture and computers, and thus end the digital divide.
This is the second year that Aldeas Infantiles has had the support of Sacyr in Chile. In 2020 we supported them with the implementation of Educational Spaces, and we delivered protective equipment for children, adolescents and collaborators, in the face of the health emergency.
With its actions in 2021, the Sacyr Foundation will also have an impact on the development of skills and talents of young people, since it has financed the second music video developed with the BAC Foundation (which works on emotional learning through psychotherapeutic intervention of the performing arts), and whose first product is the song Llama al Alma, in whose video a young participant of Aldeas Infantiles makes his debut as a singer.
In Colombia, in the Montes de María area, the Sacyr Foundation has promoted initiatives of women heads of household and victims of armed conflict, including the Asociación Mujeres Innovadoras del Campo (Innovative Women of the Countryside Organization), whose enterprise is framed in the transformation of cassava to produce cassava flour. Our contribution to this project consisted of the donation of equipment to help industrialize and improve the production process, improving its production capacity and the quantity of products to be marketed.
The Sacyr Foundation collaborates in Peru with the Mades Association, which works to help people who have been affected by the pandemic. In this way, different food kits have been delivered to the district of Zaña, in the province of Chiclayo.
In addition, together with the NGO Action Against Hunger, we have also promoted the inclusion and participation of Cajamarca's bee producers into the Peruvian regional market. Facilitating the consolidation of the beekeeping products of the producers of the area of San Miguel and surroundings for their commercialization.
Through the Emalaikat Foundation we have learned about the needs of the region of Turkana, in the south of Kenya, with them we have participated as an emergency in the construction of a solar-powered water well.
To this end, all the residents of the village where the well is located participated in its construction, also making a team effort that today is noticeable in its conservation, since for this purpose they are distributed in teams to oversee its maintenance.
Social action and the focus of our strategy on sustainability are fundamental for the projects we develop to make a positive impact, both at an environmental and a social level.
