Last March 3 the Sacyr Foundation held a weRSoCial meeting with Teo Mariscal, director of Fundación Bocalán. This foundation works to help children with ASD and other disorders find a dog pal to assist them in the day to day.
In order to prepare the dog to live with a child with a disability, they need to go through two phases: the socialization phase and the training phase. The socialization period starts when the dogs are pups and they go live with a Sacyr Foundation volunteer, in the case of Reto, Huella and Dique. Our volunteer fosters the dog for a 10-month period, and then Fundación Bocalán oversees their specific training and preps the dogs to go to their forever home.
During the meeting, Pedro Alonso, Chief Communications Officer and Executive director of the Sacyr Foundation, had a chat with Teo Mariscal, chair of Fundación Bocalán. We also had the chance to meet Dique, the new Sacyr Foundation assistance dog, and his new foster volunteer, David Cuevas, our colleage from IT.
We also had María Ruíz-Casaux, who fostered Reto, and Cristina Losana, who did Huella to share their experiences.
