The Sacyr Foundation joins the celebration of World Cancer Day, promoted by the World Health Organization, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to raise awareness and rally society to advance in the control and prevention of the disease.
This disease is one of the most frightening, because everyone has people around them who have been affected by this pathology. Approximately one in two men and one in three women will have cancer at some point in their lives. Every year more than 14 million new cases are diagnosed worldwide, and the disease causes 9.6 million deaths a year.
Early detection is fundamental to overcoming this disease, and for that reason the Sacyr Foundation collaborates with the Asociación Española contra el Cáncer. One of the initiatives of this organization is to aid in the social and labor integration of women affected by this disease. This organization also helps by offering psychological support to the people directly or indirectly affected by cancer.
In addition, the Sacyr Foundation also collaborates with the Hospital Infanta Cristina in Parla by giving support to cancer patients. More specifically, in a yearly project in which 12 cancer patients walk five stages of the Camino de Santiago. During the 127-km walk, the patients are supported by a group of medical professionals: two nurses, a nurse aide, a physical therapist and an oncologist, as some of them are still under treatment.
All the support from the Sacyr Foundation to everyone that goes through this disease.
